The Rivers State Police Command and the state Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, have ordered massive deployment of its personnels across to ensure adequate security of lives and property during the 2024 Easter celebration.

This was disclosed by Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Grace Iringe-Koko, and the spokesperson of NSCDC in the state, SC Olufemi Ayodele, in a separate statements issued in Port Harcourt on Friday.

The State Police Commissioner, CP Olatunji Disu in his operational order, directed all Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, and Divisional Police officers to deploy personnel and allocate resources to strategic locations to include; churches, parks, event centers within their areas of responsibility, as well as entry and exit routes in the state.

CP Disu who tasked officers deployed on the highways to maintain high level of vigilance and professionalism while carrying out their duties, also enjoined religious leaders, traditional leaders, parents, and guardians in the state to caution their children and wards against engaging in unlawful activities during the celebration.

The CP extended his felicitations to the good people of Rivers State, particularly Christians, on the occasion of the Easter celebration. He urges Christians to pray for God’s protection and peace in Rivers State.

Similarly, the Rivers State Commandant of the NSCDC, Basil Igwebueze, in a statement released by the Command spokesperson, Ayodele said 2,300 personnels have been deployed to strategic locations across the state to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free Easter celebration.

He hinted that the personnel deployed were drawn from various Units and Departments of the Command such as: Marine Unit, Arms Squad, the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Antivandal Unit, Intelligence Unit, Anti-Human Trafficking and illegal Migration Unit, Agro Rangers Squad, Commandant’s Quick Response Squad and Personnel from the 23 Local Government of Rivers State.

“As a trained officer you are well acquainted with the trajectory of crimes and how its carried out; you know that criminals always take advantage of the festive period to carry out their illegal operations, I hereby charge you to step up your Operational Tactics and Intelligence Techniques both overt and covert on land and waterways. You are to secure all Critical National Assets and Infrastructure in the State without compromise.”

While wishing the good people of Rivers State a happy and prosperous Easter celebration, the Command helmsman advised the public to eschew unguarded statements that could trigger crisis, even as he advised parents and guardians to take responsibility for their wards as anyone arrested for vandalism, disruption of Peace, law and order, kidnapping, abduction and other sundry offences would be prosecuted by the law enforcement agencies.
