Unenurhie community, in Evwreni kingdom, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, on Friday November 24, 2023 joined other communities, kingdoms, groups and individuals across the state to bid the departed mother in-law of the governor, late Mama Agnes Avwenyotoma Tagar, aged 89, farewell at her home in Evwreni.

In a well attended funeral service conducted at Eni Grammar School, Evwreni by the Christ Apostolic Church, Ughelli District, the ‘who is who’ in politics, business, clerics, traditional institution etc within and across the state were in attendance as the governor, Sir Sheriff Oborevwori bade his late mother in-law, late Mrs. Agnes Avwenyotoma Tagar farewell and also commiserate with his lovely wife and first lady of the state, Deaconess Mrs. Tobore Oborevwori over the great loss.

Speaking to our correspondent immediately after the interment, the president-general of Unenurhie community, Mr. Peter Maison, said, “On behalf of my family and the entire Unenurhie community, we want to commiserate with our dear governor and also our son in-law, Sir Sheriff Oborevwori and our daughter who is his lovely wife and first lady of the state, Deaconess Mrs. Tobore Oborevwori over the demise of our dear mother, late Mama Agnes Avwenyotoma Tagar and for bidding her farewell and last respect today. We thank God for all what we are seeing here today. No doubt, we can see the right hand of God in this funeral occasion. So therefore, as a distinct community, we must have to thank every person who has contributed one way or the other to the success of this funeral occasion. We have nothing to offer or say than to pray God to richly bless all of them.”

Also speaking, the Otota’Rode (Chief Speaker) of Unenurhie community, Chief Engr. Frank Imudje, described the Delta State governor, Sir Sheriff Oborevwori as a true son in-law that have depicted the true traditions and cultural practices of the Urhobo in-law’s greeting to the families of his late mother in-law, late Mama Agnes Avwenyotoma Tagar of Evwreni.

Hear him: “We are here as a distinct community and also representing our traditional head, HRH Moses Aganufa Inore , the Odion’Rode of Unenurhie community. We are proud of our dear daughter and wife of the Delta State governor, Deaconess Mrs. Tobore Oborevwori. Some days now, Evwreni has become a beehive of social activities and really turned to be a London of Delta State because of a female child. This should teach all parents and guardians here that, all children should be given equal attention in upbringing and general training. This same process should be applicable to communities making a kingdom. No community or village should be neglected in such a kingdom by powers that be in the kingdom because you don’t know tomorrow. Once again, Unenurhie community commends our dear governor and his lovely wife over a peaceful funeral event.”

Others in the Unenurhie community delegation who also spoke to our correspondent in the field were of the views that, culture and traditions should be held in high esteem in such an important occasions so that, the younger and present generations of our children could have remarkable lessons to acquire and to also protect the Urhobo culture from extinction. They however expressed thanks to Hon. Fidelis Adjogbe for actively carrying the Unenurhie people along at all times in respect to Delta state politics.
