    By Godwin Chukwumaechi, Port Harcourt.

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has appointed Dr Jossy Nkwocha, Group Head, Corporate Communications, Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals and Fertilizer Group, Port Harcourt as the chairman of the institute’s Energy Hub Management Committee.

Chairman of the National Council of NIPR and President of the Institute, Dr Ike Neliaku, while announcing the appointment said Dr Nkwocha, a distinguished fellow of the institute would lead a four-man committee carefully chosen to achieve the objectives of setting up the Energy Hub which is domiciled in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Other members of the committee are Rev. Francis Asuk of Shell Petroleum, as secretary, as well as Rev. Sola Adebawo, ex-Chevron and Lola Oyenekan both of whom are veterans in the upstream Energy sector.

The NIPR President who inaugurated the committee via Zoom on August 29, 2024 also inaugurated five other hubs and their management committees.

These include the Finance Hub, to be chaired by Rasheed Bolarinwa, president of the Association of Communication and Marketing Professionals in Banks (ACAMB); Mrs Thelma Okoh, National Council member, to chair the Maritime Hub; and Mr Basil Agboarumi, Managing Director SAHCOL, to head the Aviation Hub, all to be domiciled in Lagos.

The NIPR appointments also included Dr Ahmad Sajoh for the Anti-Corruption and Consumer Protection Hub and Miss Chimdi Neliaku to lead the NIPR Young Practitioners’ Hub, both of which are domiciled in Abuja.

Dr Neliaku said the essence of creating the hubs was to deepen the practice of Public Relations in those sectors and build sustainable relationships with critical stakeholders in such sectors for the mutual benefit of the institute and the sectors.

The letters appointing the chairmen and members of each management committee and their terms of reference, dated 26th August 2024 were signed by Chief Uzoma Onyegbadue, the NIPR Registrar and secretary of the Governing Council of the Institute.
